Here Comes the Sun

Life is so good right now. Maybe it's because of my job, or because of Frank, or because I chatted with Flick and Yseult, and managed to catch Raven on the phone, too. Or maybe it's because it was a gloriously sunny day, I bought fresh tulips from the Pike Place Public Market, and I found the perfect teal-coloured handbag that I've been looking for for a long time. Whatever the reason(s), it's been a great weekend, life is like butter on a roll and I'm just rambling on because I'm so happy. EEE! :)

300

If you haven't seen 300, GO SEE IT. It's beautifully shot (although the dialogue's a bit dodgy), passionate and all those hot, half-naked muscled bodies were preeeetty awesome, too.

The Office

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, my office is nothing like The Office. I'd love to work with Ricky Gervais; I'd probably never get any real work done but I think that's a small price to pay for his comedic presence.

Anyway, the real point of this entry is to rant about the fact that I haven't anything in my 'office'. Okay, okay, it's really a cubicle but it's huge. My desk is the size of two normal cubicles (and it's only half full) and it's pretty devoid of any personal touches.

To spruce this place up, I'll need a plant or two (the girl before me had lucky bamboo) and some pictures. My sister's already chosen a couple of pictures for me (a couple of floral prints she's done and a picture of our entire family at my university graduation). I'll also need some of my friends and some feel-good pictures from my travels (looking at them reminds me of good times and makes me feel good). I've already plugged the speakers into my mp3 player and got a personal stash of snacks (pretzels, some chocolates and I also bring a mix of oranges, bananas, pears and cherry tomatoes everyday).

Eye candy also differentiates my office from The Office. Mm mmm, and what nice eye candy he is, too! It's a shame that I refuse to hook up (in every sense of the word) with coworkers - it's a personal rule. (I know 'hook up' isn't one word but you get my drift.) Pity! Oh well at least I can look even if I can't touch. Speaking of touching, that reminds me Frank's birthday party...

Porn, Alcohol, Hot Men - Oh My!

Sounds like one big orgy, dunnit! Hahaha, well it wasn't; it was Frank's birthday party (it was also his friend Eric's birthday, too) and it all happened in a private VIP room at a local bar/club. And no, I'm so not even kidding you. The party involved a private bar (but they didn't have any Mango Malibu Rum, sadly), an ice-breaker game involving glow sticks and pictures cut from porn magazines, and about 70 people, including the birthday boys. Wow. Needless to say, I had a great time. And there are pictures to prove it, too. Oh my! Don't worry, I only had a Midori Sour, which I completely finished I'll have you know. Be proud of me!

Anyway, there's a slightly scandalous picture, which I posted at the bottom, that I feel I must explain a bit. Of course, if I just left it up to everyone's imagination it would be more fun... If you're that curious, call or email and I'll give you all the juicy gossip. Heheheh. More pictures here.

New Job

Woo, I got a job! Last Saturday was my official last day at Crabtree and I am so glad to get out of retail finally. I had two second interviews last Friday - one with the local newspaper and one with a commercial real estate company - and was totally feeling both. Turns out, they both wanted me. Ah, it feels good to be wanted.

Anyway, the former was about a 30- to 45-minute drive from me - assuming there's no traffic, which is hardly ever the case around here - and the latter 10 minutes from me regardless of traffic. The pay was slightly different, but it was really the distance, and therefore the cost of transportation (gas), that cinched the deal. I was offered the real estate job at the end of the interview and accepted it on the spot! Woo again! I am now a Marketing Coordinator/Administrative Assistant (to the President and VP).

I started Monday morning bright and early. As the MC, I'm in charge of producing, editing and maintaining all the flyers, marketing and sales materials and lease packets for all the properties (industrial, retail and office spaces for lease and sale). A *lot* of Photoshop is involved (I love that program). as well as creativity. I'm busy from the minute I walk in to the minute I sign out, which is perfect. I am also responsible for updating and maintaining our website and four other property databases. Needless to say, I'm busy all day, which is perfect for me; I have to be kept occupied or I'll get bored.

Today was my second day and I'm loving it. It's a really great team of brokers and agents, and my boss is really awesome (I'm so lucky). I knocked on my boss's door before leaving today and he looks up with a smile and a 'Hey!' I announced, with a straight face, that I had some bad news to tell him. His face dropped - the girl I'm replacing was only there for a month when she decided that the job wasn't what she wanted - and I couldn't hold my poker face and laughingly told him I was just kidding. He actually thought I was serious for a moment, his relief was palpable, and he was not amused; he said, "Gah, you're such a moron!" Haha. It's good that I can joke with him like that.
